THURS PM: 17 speed cameras for Wakefield Road

SEVENTEEN speed cameras are to be put in place on Wakefield Road

They will be put up along a five-mile stretch of Wakefield Road which has seen 10 people killed in the past four years.

More than 100 others have been hurt, many seriously, in a series of horrific accidents.

Kirklees Council's Highways and Transportation Service have been looking at ways of reducing the number of serious accidents on the A642 Wakefield Road between Waterloo and the boundary with the Wakefield Metropolitan area.

There have been a total of 78 accidents resulting in 125 casualties between January 2004 and December 2008.
