Major roadworks planned for Marsh

ROADWORKS are planned on another main road into Huddersfield.

But this time the utility company isn’t digging up the roads or diverting the traffic.

United Utilities plan to upgrade the gas works without any drastic disruption to Westbourne Road and its businesses.

The same cannot be said for major works on Halifax Road and East Street where trenches have been dug in the road.

And the inbound lane from Ainley Top roundabout to East Street is still shut.

United Utilities’ spokesman Gwen Evans said: “Our engineers plan to use a new technique for this job called live insertion which has a number of benefits.

“It means we can put the new pipe inside the old one while keeping the gas supply switched on – which is great news for gas customers.

“We expect the job to take four weeks to complete and during this time, will replace the old metal pipe with a safer, modern plastic pipe.

“We hope to be able to use this method that avoids trenches being dug in the road.

“This means that traffic will not be affected and we do not anticipate any disruption.

“Pedestrian access will also be maintained at all times.”
