Moldgreen mum’s desperate bin appeal
“All I put into my grey bin is nappies, food waste and things the council can’t recycle.
“But it’s just this problem with having two children in nappies at the moment. It is taking up a lot of space in the bins which means they are always too full.”
She contacted Kirklees Council but was told that only families of six or more could have an extra bin.
Her family of five would not be eligible and she was told to put her complaint into writing.
She added: “My bins are at the front of the house where the children play and it smells.
“I can only think that there will be maggots in there soon.
“I don’t accept the reason that bin men won’t take the bags because of lifting them because they have to lift them off the bin to leave them behind.”
A Kirklees Council spokeswoman said: “Council policy is to provide one additional grey bin on request for families of six or more.
“We do not sell additional grey bins.”
The council introduced the alternate week collection system for bins across the area from 2006.
Households have grey bins for waste that cannot be recycled, green bins for recyclable waste and boxes for glass.
