Church pays for you to learn the organ

EVER fancied yourself as an organist?

Cash is available from Wakefield Diocese for lessons to convert pianists into fully-fledged key and pedal players.

The Diocesan Organ Tuition Scheme has taught over 100 pianists to play the organ since it began in 1975. The scheme provides 20 lessons of 45 minutes worth £300.

While candidates are expected to pay a third, the Diocese of Wakefield and the pupil’s parish will pay £100 each.

For details of the scheme email secretary Tom Moore at thomasmoore70@googlemail.com or call 07712 000 375.

International organist John Scott, who directs The Choir of St Thomas, New York, will play a free recital in Wakefield Cathedral on July 4 (7.30pm).

For details email jonathan@playon.org.uk or call 01924 378841.
