Dewsbury MP Malik challenged on first home claims
He said: "I think his main home is in London. That’s the home we were given to understand he has a surround sound cinema and a massage chair."
Clr Bolt added that the constant stories about MPs’ expenses were damaging the public’s faith in all politicians.
He said: "The whole expenses debacle has been a disaster for elected representatives. People think we have our snouts in the trough.
"The whole lot of them in Westminster have a long way to go to regain public trust."
The Examiner asked Mr Malik’s office for a comment on the issue of his Burnley house sale yesterday. None was forthcoming.
Mr Malik was first involved in the expenses row last month when the Daily Telegraph alleged that Mr Malik was paying below the market rate for his £320-a-month rented home in Dewsbury Moor.
The MP stood down as justice minister while the claim was investigated. He was cleared and returned to the Government as communities minister on Tuesday.
However, the following day the Daily Telegraph alleged that Mr Malik was claiming for the costs of running two constituency offices at the same time.
The MP has denied any wrongdoing and a new investigation has been launched.
