Greenhead Park to stage Carnival special

A SHOCK decision to free up Greenhead Park for this year’s Carnival has delighted organisers.

They had feared a multi-million pound revamp scheme for the park had ruined their chances of celebrating their 25th anniversary with a colourful, noisy spectacular.

But a rethink by Kirklees Council officials has led to the park being made available for July 11.

And now crowds of thousands are expected to follow the parade to the park, after it has wound its way through Huddersfield town centre.

Delighted officials from the Huddersfield African Caribbean Cultural Trust today confirmed they have been given the go-ahead to use the park for their 25th anniversary event.

The park event – this year titled Mas Mania – is regarded by many as the main event of the Huddersfield Carnival.

It provides an opportunity for all those who have taken part in and supported the carnival procession through the streets of Huddersfield to celebrate together with friends and family.

The participants perform on the main stage and young people demonstrate their talents in their own performance area.

There will also be plenty of food, drink, clothes and other artefacts for sale around the park.
