Honley Show hits a high with 14,000 visitors

RECORD numbers of people flocked to the annual Honley Show at the weekend.

Organisers say 14,000 people enjoyed a family day out in the sun and watching the animal demonstrations.

Attendance figures were up 10% and were the highest the attraction has seen at its current venue in Farnley Tyas.

Excited children asked to cuddle up to the rabbits while horse lovers watched in admiration at the showjumping classes.

One of the most-watched and supported events was the dog show, with people travelling far and wide to enter their canine into a category.

Jodie and Adam Collins were showing off their dog Rocky, aged four months.

The Hepworth children were among many entering their pet pooch into categories such as most handsome dog and dog with waggiest tail.

Jodie, nine, said: "I like watching the dog show here – it’s good fun."

Adam, eight, entered Rocky into the best child handler class and walked away with a rosette for 5th place, which he was delighted with.

Little Tommy Blackburn, aged two, was at his first Honley Show with parents Lynsey and David, of Almondbury.

He was excitedly looking at the rabbits and his mum said: "We’ve been coming for the past few years because it’s a great day out and is something different too.
