2 held on Huddersfield street theft bids

TWO men were arrested after a spate of car and motorbike robbery attempts during morning rush hour.

The suspects, in their 20s, are alleged to have tried to steal vehicles from motorists as they pulled up at traffic lights.

In two of the incidents moped riders were approached by two men as they waited at lights at the junction of Blackmoorfoot Road and Manchester Road in Thornton Lodge.

They made threats to the riders but failed to force them off the scooters.

In the third incident, the would-be robbers tried to steal a car being driven by a woman, which had stopped at the junction of Longroyd Lane and Manchester Road at Longroyd Bridge.

She managed to escape unharmed.

All three incidents happened between 7am and 8am on June 4.

An email from a friend of the woman victim has since been circulated around Kirklees Council departments warning people of the danger.

It says: "Two men approached her car. One tapped on the window and asked the time to distract her as the other one opened her door and attempted to drag her out.
