Cathedral House wins Building Excellence Award

A STUNNING church in Huddersfield has won an award – less than a month after its official opening.

Cathedral House, at St Thomas’ Road, Folly Hall, won the community project award at the fifth annual Building Excellence Awards run by West Yorkshire’s five local authorities.

The new church, which provides a home to Huddersfield Christian Fellowship, was nominated for the award by Kirklees Council’s building control service.

The church was officially opened last month by Kirklees Mayor Clr Julie Stewart-Turner.

Project manager Andrew France received the award on behalf of the scheme architects Aedas at a ceremony at Tong Holiday Inn, Bradford.

He also thanked contractors Stainforth Construction, the scheme’s financial adviser James Clarkson and executive architect Mark Sidding for their contribution to the success of the project.

Pastor Colin Cooper stresses that the new facilities are non-exclusive and open to everyone in Yorkshire and beyond, adding: "We love our region. It’s a great place and we want this to be a building for everyone."
