They also made scarecrows which were sited all along the road between the two schools.
The event was made possible by a £5,000 grant from the Kirklees Council’s Neighbourhood Management Fund.
The project aimed to:
Increase awareness of healthy eating and living.
To work as a team to develop creative, innovative and sustainable ways to grow food.
Encourage children to share key messages with parents about healthy food.
Increase the knowledge of how lifestyle impacts on health for children and parents by introducing ideas of how to cook healthy meals.
Develop an awareness of health related services that are available.
A special celebration marked the end of the week-long project and parents and community members were able to view what had been created.
Teenagers from the Kirklees Practise Activity and Leisure Scheme team provided physical games for the children and to help promote healthy living.
Representatives from the NHS talked to children and parents about health related issues and from Birkby Children’s Centre talked to people about eating healthily on a budget.
