YOUNG designers have won awards in a mini-F1 style competition – by teaming up with the company that built their school.
Eight youngsters, aged 10–11, won two categories in the regional heat of the National Schools F1 Challenge, held at The Royal Armouries, Leeds.
Entrants had to research, design and build small dragster cars from balsa wood and then compete in races.
Pupils had to submit a file of evidence and give a Power Point presentation.
Moorlands teams, Typhoon and Lightning Dragons, joined Colin Peel manager for Morgan Ashurst, who built their school on Moorlands Road.
Colin gave the pupils advice on design, health and safety, streamlining and finishes and supplied them with competition uniforms.
Both teams won the Best Sponsored School title while Lightning Dragons also won the Best Portfolio of Evidence title.
