But he has since received treatment including major surgery and chemotherapy to beat the cancer.
Det Con Lee added: “I would like to thank all the district nurses who have helped me through this time.
“I can’t thank them enough but the charity events are my way of giving something back to them.”
The fundraising events will also be organised by cancer sufferer Terry Meigh.
“I met some fantastic people on the chemo ward and we could spend our life trying to help,” he added.
“The sad but humbling thing is that a lot are suffering from terminal cancer and they still want to help.
“I am back at work soon but will never stop the helping the people with cancer and the staff at HRI regarding their battle against cancer.”
On Friday June 26 a Twenty-20 cricket match and auction is being held at Scholes Cricket Club at 6pm to raise money for Beat Bowel Cancer.
He is also backing a golf tournament at Longley Golf Club on Wednesday July 1. Tee times are 4pm and 6pm and costs £30 for a team of four or £7.50 each.
The event will be followed by another auction with some amazing golf memorabilia up for grabs including a Phil Mickelson masters golf flag, Nick Faldo signed items and a Gregg Norman cap.
The auction is open to the public to attend and bid for any items to raise money for the charity.
