Huddersfield and Kirklees MP on expenses publication

A spokesman for Mr Malik said: “He has already been made aware of that issue and has paid the money back to the fees office”.

Mr Sheerman said: “As Examiner readers already know, my expenses were made available to the newspaper weeks ago.

“It is quite right that some details have been expurgated. I do not want private details about my home and the staff who work for me to be made public.

“But I welcome the publication; it is another move towards the transparency of Government we all want to see.”

Wakefield MP Mary Creagh said: “I welcome the publication of expenses receipts on the Parliament website. I have always voted for transparency in allowances which is why the Examiner has seen the full version of my second home receipts.

“The House of Commons authorities have blacked out data that covers bank details, staff names and signatures.

“I do understand public concern about the blacked out information, given what has happened over the past month. Independent auditors will go through everyone’s claims by September and I hope that gives people some reassurance.

“And it’s important to realise that the old discredited system has been scrapped. All parties have agreed that MPs should no longer set their own pay, allowances or standards of conduct and that these should be handed over to independent regulation.”
