Huddersfield man in gun running gang jailed

A GUN runner from Huddersfield was one of nine men jailed for a total of 53 years for trading firearms.

Gavin Dennis, 27, was sentenced to four years for possessing a firearm.

He was part of a gang involved in a plot to buy and sell weapons.

They were uncovered by Greater Manchester Police’s Xcalibre organised crime unit.

Dennis, of Greyfriars Avenue, Deighton, was arrested following an armed raid by officers on cars in Manchester on June 26 last year.

He was one of four men who drove two cars from Huddersfield to Manchester.

They met another gang member who gave them a white plastic bag in exchange for a small black package.

All the men got into the two cars and drove off.

Officers from the tactical firearms swooped on the cars that night. Dennis tried to run but was arrested.

Police found two Reck Miami 9mm pistols with silencers and magazine clips in the boot of one of the cars.

There were nine rounds of .38 calibre ammunition in both weapons.

Each weapon also contained laser sightings.

Three other men were arrested in a similar operation in Leeds last year.

Other than Dennis, the gang members were from Leeds, Manchester and London.

In total three guns and 18 rounds of ammunition were recovered.

Eight of the men were jailed for sentences ranging from three to nine-and-a-half years.

One is awaiting sentence.
