Police arrest 12 in roads crackdown in West Yorkshire

FOUR police forces teamed up to stop cross-border villains.

Criminals travelling across Yorkshire to commit crimes were targeted in a joint operation denying them the use of the region’s road networks.

West Yorkshire Police and the three other Yorkshire and Humber forces, the Regional Roads Policing Unit and the Highways Agency were involved.

The operation led to the arrests of 12 people aged between 17 and 42.

They were wanted for questioning about a number of offences including possessing cannabis with the intent to supply, burglary, theft from motor vehicles, possession of Class A drugs, dangerous driving, being over the prescribed limit and breach of bail.

The road patrols were deployed to a number of points across the forces’ boundaries, from Penistone to the A1.

They used intelligence led information, state-of-the-art in-car camera technology and highly trained roads policing officers.

The operation resulted in the successful disruption of criminal activities in the cross-border areas of Kirklees, Wakefield and Barnsley.

Police also checked 209 vehicles and handed out 32 fixed penalty notices.
