THE stage is set for a new music event in Dalton.
Between 1,000 and 2,000 people are expected to attend the event, dubbed HD5 is Alive with the Sound of Music, on July 4.
It will feature a range of workshops, including rap, African drumming, DJ-ing, jazz, brass and spray can art.
The event at the DRAM sports and community centre will also feature a talent competition. Auditions will be held at Dalton Baptist Church and the final at Netherhall Learning Campus.
The event has cost about £18,000, with an extra £5,000 allocated for work in schools to promote the event.
Organiser Morris Simpson said: “We are really hoping that it will bring the community together, old and young and that it starts something which we can build on in the future.
“It would be great to find some talent with the show we are doing.”
Dalton councillor Rochelle Parchment, who helped organise it, said: “I’m really positive about it. The main reason is to engage with the community and get more children involved in music and art. It’s a pilot scheme, but we hope there will be follow-up work and that it will become an annual event.”
