Yorkshire Ripper had same hunting instincts as Great White Shark: Scientists

Smaller, younger, sharks exhibited more dispersed search patterns and were less successful hunters.

The research, led by Dr Neil Hammerschlag, from the University of Miami in the US, is reported in the Journal of Zoology, published by the Zoological Society of London.

Dr Steven Le Comber, an expert on geographic profiling at Queen Mary, University of London, said: “Shark hunting patterns are extremely difficult to study and the work here will have important implications for our understanding of the ways in which predators hunt their prey.”

Sutcliffe brutally murdered 13 women in West Yorkshire in the mid to late 70s – including 18-year-old Huddersfield prostitute Helen Rytka in January 1978.

He also tried to kill seven other women including teenager Theresa Sykes at Oakes.

He was arrested in 1981 and is now serving life at Broadmoor with a recommendation he must stay behind bars for 30 years.
