Longwood landlady fined by Sky for showing football

A PUB landlady has been fined – for showing live football matches in Huddersfield via Albanian television.

Elizabeth Robinson, of The Rose and Crown on Thornhill Road, Longwood, was caught showing a match on January 10.

She was found guilty in her absence at Huddersfield Crown Court on June 9.

But she failed to attend yesterday’s sentencing hearing.

The court was told that she showed Aston Villa’s 2-1 win over West Brom in front of just four customers on January 10.

It was shown via an Albanian television company which pays the Premier League for rights to show matches in that country.

But prosecutor David O’Del of the Media Protection Services Ltd, said UK-based customers could only legally access football matches by subscribing to Sky.
