Mauled Mirfield puppy back home after horror attack

A PUPPY mauled to within an inch of its life in a horrific dog attack has made a miraculous recovery.

Sixteen-week-old Shih Tzu, Honey, was attacked by a large Japanese Akita while being walked near Crossley Lane, Mirfield at 2pm last Saturday.

She suffered horrific injuries, including broken ribs and puncture wounds after the Akita, which was on a lead, wrenched free of its owner and clamped the small puppy in its mouth.

Honey’s owners Lisa and Riccardo Pinardi managed to intervene but say the female owner of the Akita refused to give her details and left without saying sorry.

Honey was rushed to Mirfield vet Donaldsons and partners and treated for shock and on Saturday evening it was touch and go whether she would make it through the night.

Now after recuperating in an oxygen tent and undergoing two hours of surgery, Honey is already walking again and has gone back to her Mirfield home.

Julia Froom, from Donaldsons and partners vets said Honey had made a remarkable recovery.

She said: “Initially it looked like she was going to die.

“The main concern was she had five rib fractures and extensive damage to her chest wall.
