Music festivals saved at 11th hour

TWO music festivals have been saved at the eleventh hour.
Organisers of the Crown of Lights Festival, Heckmondwike, feared this year’s two events would be cancelled after councillors opted to spend their annual £10,000 budget on a children’s Bounce ‘n’ Bump event.
But Spen Valley councillors stepped in at the last minute pledging £8,000 for the free Crown of Lights events at Green Park, Heckmondwike, on July 25 and September 5.
Kirklees councillors decided to support the festivals at a meeting at Cleckheaton Town Hall on Tuesday.
Both festivals, which run from noon until 10pm, feature 12 bands playing musical styles including indie, pop, rock, folk, country and blues.
This year’s events are the fifth and sixth Crown of Lights festivals which began three years ago.
