Music festivals saved at 11th hour

Organiser Donal O’Driscoll said: “I’m massively relieved. We had to invest all that time and effort because you can’t wait until you have the money and then organise it.
“The preparation started in December. I would have been devastated if we hadn’t got the money.
“But now I’m delighted local councillors have gone for it. They’re putting a lot of serious money into it.”
Heckmondwike councillor David Sheard said: “We’ve had the park renovated with a new bandstand for these kind of events. The festivals are getting more and more popular and I think we should be helping them.”
The event however still needs £4,000 to pay artists’ expenses and is looking for sponsorship.
So far all but one band has agreed to play free of charge.
