Denby Dale centre to acquire new ‘Hub’

But now the Salvation Army is selling the hall after it became surplus to requirements.

So far DDC has applied for grants from Kirklees Council, the Big Lottery and other charitable funds.

Until August, DDC will have the exclusive right to buy The Hub.

DDC centre manager and committee chairman Jeanette Lodge said: “We’ve never developed the use of The Hub because of the short-term lease.

“At the moment it’s not suitable for most people. It’s hard to encourage elderly groups to meet there because it’s difficult to get from the bottom level to the top.

“We’d like to develop it with the guidance of people from Kirkburton. We’re working towards it and we’re optimistic but there’s a long way to go.”

Denby Dale Centre holds a coffee morning on June 27 and a ‘Blokes and Ballads’ event on July 4 to raise funds for The Hub.
