Elderly border collie Belle savaged by Rhodesian ridgeback in Netherton
“I think dogs like that should be muzzled.”
Anne only realised how badly hurt Belle was when they got home after Wednesday’s attack.
She said: “Belle didn’t start bleeding right away but part of her skin was hanging off so I took her to the vet to have her stitched up.”
Anne, who is a teacher at Marsden Junior School, said the attack was particularly disturbing because Belle is nearing the end of her life.
She said: “Belle has had three major strokes in the last 18 months and, if I’m being honest, she only has a few months to live and I would just like her to be comfortable. She’s such a good-natured dog who never growls at anyone.”
Anne, who lives on Bourn View Road in Netherton, regularly takes Belle for walks in the woods near her home.
She said: “I’m very wary of taking her there again because if I saw those ridgebacks I would be really scared. I would warn other people who walk their dogs there to be careful. A smaller dog wouldn’t have a chance.”
