Thousands enjoy Ravensknowle Children’s Gala

THOUSANDS of people enjoyed a fun day out yesterday.
Ravensknowle Children’s Gala, which is in its 82nd year, attracted families from across Huddersfield.
The fun began at Ravensknowle Park with the grand procession at 1pm followed by entertainment including a fancy dress competition, fairground rides, karaoke and a display by the Huddersfield Town cheerleaders.
There were also stalls, limousine rides and a marching band.
And yesterday’s gala was bigger than last year’s event.
David Smith, who helps organise the free gala, said: “The event had been concentrated in one field within Ravensknowle Park in recent years while the rebuilding of Moldgreen School took place. But this year we also occupied the recreation ground running alongside Lister Street.
“This gave us the chance to include more attractions, including a huge climbing wall and a display area for West Yorkshire Fire Service.”
