Brighouse mum-of-two pens girly novel based in the town

BRIGHOUSE is about to become the setting of a glamorous new ‘chick lit’ novel.

Emma Lawton is using her home town as the setting for her first girly book.

The mother-of-two said the town is a more realistic setting for her novel entitled ‘Chick Lit from the Bargain Bin’ than London, Paris or New York.

She said people could relate to it more and hopes it will be a hit along the lines of Bridget Jones’ Diary.

Emma, 32, grew up in Brighouse and said she wanted to be different to other authors.

Emma, an English teacher at a Leeds secondary school, said: “Books in the chick lit genre are always set in an urban, upmarket setting such as London or New York.

“But in reality why can’t the same story apply to a town like Brighouse which more people can associate with?

“I’m from Brighouse and I thought it would be a lot better to write about a place which I am familiar with.

“Brighouse has got a much more down-to-earth feel and people can associate with its character because it’s more of a reality and similar to everyone’s lives.”

The novel tells the story of a Brighouse single mum who loves reading girly novels, but feels that her life could never be as exciting as the stories she reads.

But all that could change when she meets a man who can give her the lifestyle she’s long dreamed of.

Emma, a mother-of-two, added: “I’ve always wanted to be a writer, I’ve been reading books for as long as I can remember.
