Huddersfield own stars turn to cricket for charity
TOWN stars past and present turned out to help a deserving charity.
Players including Andy Booth, Jon Stead, Jon Worthington and Nathan Clarke swapped soccer kit for cricket whites in a great night out.
They all took part in a charity 20-20 cricket match organised by Huddersfield detective John Lee, who has just won a long battle against bowel cancer.
Det Con Lee was diagnosed with bowel cancer last year after experiencing two years of symptoms.
But he has now just been given the all-clear and has paid tribute to the medical and nursing staff who had helped him through the ordeal.
And the Huddersfield CID detective has vowed to do all he can to help others by raising cash.
He got off to a great start, with about 700 people packing into Scholes Cricket Club to see the match between a Police Select XI and the Footballers XI. The game ended in a draw, with each team scoring 148.
The players’ team were given a pre-match boost when Gerry Murphy – who had brought many of them through the Huddersfield Town Academy – turned up to give a team talk.
The team also included former Town skipper Andy Holdsworth, Tom Clarke, Phil Senior, Chris Senior, Jon Dyson and Joe Skarz.
Lee said: “It was a great evening and the footballers were tremendous.
