Olympic cyclist Ed Clancy joins forces with Huddersfield Town

OLYMPIC gold medal cyclist Ed Clancy has become the new coach at Huddersfield Town.

But he won’t be leading training sessions, instead the former Shelley High School pupil will be giving cycling tips to chairman Dean Hoyle and commercial director Sean Jarvis.

His new role comes as the duo prepare for their sponsored 230-mile bike ride from Huddersfield Town to Southend United to raise money for Yorkshire Air Ambulance as part of Town’s Keep It Up campaign.

Yesterday the Olympic champ stopped-by at the Galpharm Stadium to lend his support.

Ed said: “It can easily be done with a bit of training and dedication.

“It’s a great challenge and it’s for a great cause too, so I’m happy to help where I can.

“It’s a long way, but from what I can see and have been told, they’re doing just fine.”

His advice ranged from getting a good bike with comfy saddle to eating and drinking properly.

Ed, who won gold at the Beijing Olympics last summer, is a former Holme Valley Wheelers club member.
