Wentworth School reunion planned
Jun 30 2009 Huddersfield Daily Examiner
A FORMER pupil of a Huddersfield school is organising a reunion.
Audrey Eastwood is looking for people who attended Wentworth School in the 1940s and 1950s.
Audrey – whose maiden name was Clayton – went to the school from 1943 to 1953.
The Emley woman came up with the idea of the reunion after getting in touch with another former pupil, Judy Lindley, who now lives in Essex.
Audrey, 72, remembers the good education she got at Wentworth.
She said: “It was a happy place and I had lots of friends there. We learned a great many things there.”
Audrey particularly remembers the “very strict” headmistress Kathleen Evans, who taught the children that “manners maketh man”.
Details of the reunion have yet to be finalised but anyone interested in attending can call Audrey on 07750 613 112.
Wentworth School was founded on Wentworth Street in the 1860s, moving to Greenhead Road in 1934.
The school closed in 1970. It had 30 pupils aged between three and 16 at the time of its closure.
