Police seize £300,000 cannabis plants in Huddersfield

POLICE have smashed another cannabis ‘factory’ in Huddersfield.

And the drugs bust at Bulay Road in Thornton Lodge was the 205th such ‘factory’ uncovered by police in Kirklees since June 2007.

Throughout West Yorkshire, police have raided 1,121 so-called factories in the same period – an increase of 44.8% on the previous year.

In Kirklees, the number of drugs factories uncovered has risen by 35.6%.

Officers found about 1,000 cannabis plants in the raid in Thornton Lodge.

Neighbourhood Policing Team officers believe the plants they seized in the raid have a street value of almost £300,000.

Officers raided the house after a tip-off from a member of the public.

And, once again, they praised the help they have received from the public.

Sgt Nicola Brown, of the Huddersfield South Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “I would like to thank all those people who have listened to us and contacted us with information.

“It is due to them that these cannabis factories are being shut down.

“However, I would again remind people that residential properties are being used to cultivate cannabis.

“Usually these properties are rented, and we are encouraging landlords and neighbours to be vigilant.
