Andy Murray affect on Huddersfield’s tennis clubs
“It’s an outdoor summer sport anyway but the Wimbledon effect always promotes tennis locally too.
“It’s a great sport, it’s good exercise and you get to meet new people too.
“We’ve all been watching Andy Murray.
“I want Murray to win, but quite a few people think that to see Roger Federer win and set a new world record would be amazing too.
“But hand on heart and for the love of British tennis I’m backing Murray.”
The tennis centre in Edgerton was officially opened last year by Greg Rusedski, whose mother was born in Dewsbury.
It is the home to ten indoor and outdoor courts of different surfaces with professional coaches on hand.
They are open seven days a week with more than 650 tennis-playing members who pay a yearly fee to join the club.
Future tennis champions under the age of 10 can go along free while membership for an adult is just over £302 per year.
Budding tennis players can go along to Batley Sports and Tennis Club which is the only Kirklees Active Leisure operated tennis facility in Kirklees.
Thongsbridge Tennis Club has outdoor courts which cost £17.40 per hour or £13.40 per hour off-peak for those registered as members.
