THE Examiner’s commitment to Change4Life continues today.
Change4Life is a nationwide movement which aims to help us all, but especially our children, eat well, move more and live longer.
The Examiner is the only newspaper in West Yorkshire to sign up as a champion for Change4Life.
Head of content Andy Hirst said: “We covered phase one of Change4Life earlier this year and now during the summer will move on to phase 2. We want as many people as possible to get involved, so let us know about your Change4Life events for us to profile.
“If we carry on as we are, nine out of 10 of today’s kids risk growing up with dangerous levels of fat in their bodies This can cause serious illnesses like heart disease, cancer and type 2 diabetes in later life.’’
Here are eight Easy Ways to Change4Life:
60 Active Minutes.
Kids need to do at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day that gets their heart beating faster than usual.
Me size meals.
When kids eat more than their bodies need, it converts to stored fat. So many families are making a conscious effort to serve kids kid-sized portions.
Sugar Swaps.
Excess sugar can mean excess energy which in turn can lead to stored fat in the body. To prevent this, many families are swapping food and drink with added sugar for stuff that’s lower in sugar or sugar free.
