Hard shoulder plan for M62

The hard shoulder between junctions 28 and 29 would remain closed to traffic, as this stretch of the motorway is already four lanes wide.

The hard shoulder between junctions 29 and 30 – either side of Rothwell – would also be open during rush hour.

The agency plans to start construction work next October and have the system up-and-running by December 2012.

The M62 proposal is part of a £6bn Government plan announced last year to improve Britain’s motorways. Opening the hard shoulder to traffic has worked successfully on a stretch of the M42 near Birmingham.

The Highways Agency today announced a public exhibition on the proposal, which will take place at Cleckheaton Library from 11am to 8pm on Friday, July 17 and from 11am to 4pm the following day.
