Red Arrows treat at Scissett school
Jul 3 2009 By Anne-Marie Senior
IT WAS over in seconds.
But the memory of the day the RAF’s Red Arrows flew over a Scissett school will last a lifetime in the young minds of 600 pupils.
The excited youngsters sat in silence as they waited for a promised flypast at 2.09pm yesterday.
The surprise event was the highlight of a three-week creative arts festival at Scissett Middle School based on a colour theme.
The students – dressed in coloured T-shirts – formed a rainbow on the school’s playing fields, making it easy for the RAF pilots to spot them.
Then, they sat in perfect order gazing up at the sky as they waited for the first hint of a plane overhead.
At exactly 2.09pm a 10-strong team of planes appeared over the school’s treeline.
Trailing behind them were their trademark plumes of smoke.
The students cheered and squealed as the v-shaped formation dipped and turned their planes to impress them.
Then, within a flash they were gone, leaving behind school memories that will last a lifetime.
Pupil Savannah Ward, 13, was very impressed with their manoeuvres.
