TUES PM: Halifax Road to reopen to two-way traffic on Wednesday
Halifax Road
A MAJOR road into Huddersfield reopens tomorrow after months of closure.
Parts of Halifax Road have been closed to traffic heading into town since April while gas pipes were replaced.
But United Utilities, which carried out the work, said yesterday that the road was due to reopen tomorrow – four days ahead of schedule.
Operations manager Barry Watson said: "Our work on Halifax Road is now complete and we expect to be able to re-open the road on Wednesday, slightly ahead of schedule.
"We carried out this major mains replacement work on behalf of Northern Gas Networks the region’s gas pipeline owner. Our engineers upgraded 800m of old metal pipe with modern, plastic pipe to help ensure the safety of the gas supply to the area for years to come.
"We would like to thank everyone affected by our work on Halifax Road for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience it may have caused."
