Driest six months in Huddersfield for 19 years
Jul 8 2009 by Joanne Douglas, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
THIS year has been the driest since 1990 – despite yesterday’s downpour.
New figures show Huddersfield has had less than half the rainfall in the last six months compared to the same time last year.
But luckily Yorkshire Water’s stocks remain high despite less rainfall.
Figures from Huddersfield University’s school of applied sciences show that just 258.8mm of rain has fallen so far this year.
Last year 583.5mm of rainfall was recorded over the same period.
The month of June was both the warmest and driest in Huddersfield since 2006.
Temperatures reached an average of 15.3°C and the warmest day was June 30th when the temperature reached a high of 20.8°C.
The coldest day of the month was Friday June 5 when it fell to just 6°C, which was also the wettest day of the month with 36.6% of the month’s total rainfall on just one day.
A total of 50.8mm of rain fell during the month compared to the average of 64.9mm.
Figures show the highest gust of wind for the whole of June was 95.04km/hr which was recorded on Sunday June 7.
