Clayton West schoolgirl hits all the right notes
WE are celebrating the fact that Huddersfield’s young people have got bags of talent.
The Examiner is partnering national Shine Week to showcase young talent in our area – in all its many forms.
Today we report on schoolgirl Mollie Davidson who is a talented musician.
She only picked up a violin two years ago, but already she has shot up to grade 5 and won a string of awards.
The eight-year-old also plays piano, sings and dances.
And she actively gets involved in all the musical activities at her school, Kayes First and Nursery School in Clayton West.
In the Huddersfield Grammar School Music Festival this year she won a staggering eight awards.
And at the Mrs Sunderland Music Festival she was told that her piano playing was “outstanding”.
Mum Melanie, a music teacher at All Saints’ High School, said: “She’s really naturally talented. We’re quite a musical family – so she picked it up easily.
“She’s a fairly quiet girl, but when she gets on stage she just loves performing.
“She doesn’t get nervous. When we go to music festivals I’m the one that’s in bits and she just gets on with it.”
Mollie, of Clayton West, does well at school and particularly likes the arts.
Mum Melanie is pregnant with a baby boy and they are looking forward to a new addition to the family.
Melanie said: “Mollie was a bit worried about her mummy at first, but now she’s looking forward to the new baby.
“She’s a sensible girl and she’s always been very good and well–behaved.”
Melanie said she thought Mollie would be a great example to other youngsters during Shine Week.
