Chequers After School Club given a reprieve

AN After School Club facing closure has been given a reprieve.

The Examiner reported on Monday that the Chequers After School Club in Deighton would close at the end of the school term.

It was a decision that caused great disappointment to parents and the children who go there every day.

But parents have been given some hope after local councillors called for a review of plans to close it.

Parent Mel Mills received a letter which said: “Chequers will close for the summer holidays on Friday, July 17 with the intention that the service will not resume after the summer holidays.

“Following recent reports in the Huddersfield Examiner local councillors have requested that we look in more detail at future options.”

The letter goes on to say that education chiefs will consider their options over the summer and make a decision.
