Former Huddersfield student returns to build new Meltham care home
A FORMER Huddersfield student has returned to his roots to build a high-tech care home.
The Greenacres care home in Meltham was closed in 2006 but now a new 64-bed home has begun construction on the same site.
Demolition of the old home began this week and Lawrence Tomlinson, who studied at Huddersfield Technical College and is now chairman of LNT Construction, said he was pleased to be giving something back to the community where he was educated.
He said: “I'm delighted that we are creating a new care facility on the old Greenacres site.
“By using our latest designs it will allow the best care to be provided for the local community.
“It’s a bold move by Kirklees Council to use a local entrepreneur to unlock the potential of the site, but one which I believe will be seen as visionary by other authorities in years to come.
“Having attended Huddersfield Technical College myself I am very pleased to be working back in the area once more.”
The new bespoke home will offer 31 beds for general purpose care and a further 33 for dementia patients.
Other facilities for residents will be fully landscaped gardens, a courtyard, a hairdressing salon and attractive floor to ceiling windows in lounge areas.
