Fire at John Cotton truck yard
A MIRFIELD firm is counting the cost of a huge blaze.
The inferno swept through a compound packed with 16 trailer units owned by John Cotton and Sons.
The fire, which broke out yesterday morning, destroyed all the vehicles and their contents.
The damage is expected to be hundreds of thousands of pounds.
Police confirmed last night that two 17-year-old youths were being questioned on suspicion of arson.
The firm manufactures bedding, duvets and pillows and beds.
Most of the trailer units were filled with bales of wadding material that is manufactured in Mirfield for use in mattresses.
More than 30 firefighters had battled to control the blaze, which started in a compound in Liversedge about dawn yesterday.
Fire crews from several West Yorkshire stations were called to the compound in Wormald Street, which is rented by John Cotton.
The alarm was raised at 4.10am.
