Brighouse residents protest over road deaths after Chris Camplin death

FIFTY residents protested about the lack of road safety measures in the Brighouse area.
The death of Brighouse man Chris Camplin prompted the demonstration with Clr Colin Stout saying people now demanded more action.
He said there had been too many fatalities, serious accidents or people injured on the area’s roads for them to accept advice that speed cameras were not necessary.
There is not one speed camera in the Lower Valley areas of Calderdale, which covers Brighouse, Rastrick, Clifton, Bailiff Bridge, Hipperholme, Lightcliffe, Greetland and Stainland, while Elland has some only on the bypass.
Yet the major roads which lead into the areas, such as Bradford Road in Huddersfield, all have speed cameras along them.
Clr Stout said: “We’ve had four fatalities on Halifax Road, two in the Clifton area around Highmoor Lane and two on Bradford Road.
“It’s eight too many as far as I am concerned.
“You can trip over speed cameras in the areas surrounding us.
