Health concerns about Marsden mast

“There’s land between High Lea and Tunnel End which isn’t near houses and where a mast wouldn’t be noticeable to walkers. I hope Network Rail move the mast that way.”
Network Rail spokeswoman Rachel Lowe said the communication mast would improve the safety of trains.
She said: “This is part of a £1.9bn nationwide railway communications system which will allow direct and continuous communication between train driver and signaller and will considerably improve safety, reliability and punctuality for all passengers.
“This new network is solely for the delivery of the railway communications system and will not be used by commercial mobile phone companies.
“A mast with equipment cabinet is required in the Standedge Tunnel area.
“The site is approximately 75 metres from the properties on High Lea and will be screened by trees. We are looking at measures to mitigate the visual impact of the mast.”
Ms Lowe added that Network Rail was consulting on the best location for the mast.
She said: “We have been working closely with Kirklees Council and others in the area to find a suitable location which will provide 100% coverage in the Standedge Tunnel area as well as taking into consideration the listed features at Standedge Tunnel and respect the nearby conservation area.
“We will be holding an exhibition on Saturday, July 18 between 10am and 1pm at Marsden Mechanics Hall about our proposals.
“This will give us the opportunity to inform residents of our plan.”
