Planning permission not needed for changes to historic Huddersfield Library

CHANGES to an historic Huddersfield building will not require planning permission according to a top councillor.

Kirklees Council wants to improve the reception at Huddersfield Library.

The council’s Cabinet plans to remove the existing reception area to the right of the main door and replace it with a counter offering visitor information.

But Cabinet member Clr Christine Stanfield revealed that planning permission is not required – even though the library is a listed building.

She said: “The current reception area is a cubby hole which was not part of the original building.
