Meltham engineering firm goes into administration

AN engineering firm in Huddersfield is believed to have called in administrators.

Employees at Meltham Mills Engineering (MME) in Meltham Mills have reportedly been made redundant following the appointment of administrators.

They are now said to be looking at the viability of sister company Meltham Mills Heat Treatment.

Directors were unavailable to comment yesterday despite repeated efforts to contact them.

But one employee, who asked not to be named, said workers were called to a meeting this week and told that MME had gone into administration.

He claimed: “The heat treatment side of the business will carry on and there will be efforts to sell it as a going concern.

“But we were told that if nothing comes of that in the next week or two, it will go as well.

“It was a big shock to most people, although we knew things were not going well.

“The engineering side employed about 20 to 25 people and there are about the same on the heat treatment side.”
