HEALTH staff have chosen to give their spare pennies to a charity to help build a children’s hospice and respite care centre in Huddersfield.

Staff from NHS Kirklees have voted for The West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust and will be taking part in the Pennies from Heaven scheme which enables workers to donate spare pennies from their income to charity.

For staff who join the scheme net salaries will be rounded down with the spare pennies being donated to the trust. The most anyone can give per pay slip is £0.99 and all donations are eligible for gift aid which means an additional 28% is added by the government.

The aim of the West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust is to provide care and support for children with life-limiting conditions.

The trust is currently raising funds to build a facility at Brackenhall.

More than £3m is needed to build the centre.

Mike Potts, Chief Executive at NHS Kirklees, said: “NHS Kirklees is delighted to be supporting The Forget Me Not Trust here in Huddersfield and hope that this simple way of donating the pennies from our salaries helps raise much needed funds for a hospice and respite care centre for local children.”
