A JUDGE has hit out at drunken teenagers after watching CCTV footage of a late-night attack on a teaching assistant.
Judge Scott Wolstenholme said the public were “sick and tired” of drunken youths causing mayhem on the streets after seeing a recording of an attack on 38-year-old Simon Kay in Huddersfield town centre.
Yesterday the judge ordered Brighouse teenager Mark Rushworth and a 17-year-old girl, who cannot be named, to pay a total of £500 in compensation to Mr Kay after he was punched and kicked during the street disturbance outside a fast food restaurant in March.
Bradford Crown Court heard that Mr Kay had been out drinking with colleagues when he had his pocket picked as he stood chatting with a group of youngsters outside McDonalds in Market Place.
The violence broke out when Mr Kay asked for his wallet back and CCTV footage showed the teenage girl hitting him about the head with her hand.
As the disturbance continued Mr Kay ended up on his hand and knees in the road and 18-year-old Rushworth ran over to kick him in the upper part or his body or head.
“Mr Kay was lifted up by the blow and fell apparently unconscious to the floor lying on his front”, said prosecutor Duncan Ritchie.
