A PHANTOM motorist made a fraudulent insurance claim for a road traffic accident he was never involved in, a jury heard has heard.
Rashid Shaikh, 29, of Victoria Road, Dewsbury, claimed to have been behind the wheel of a black Audi which suffered “scratches” when a Volvo ran into the back of it on a roundabout, Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court heard.
He and two other men, the Audi’s owner, Iqbal Khan, and his son Ershad Khan, a phantom passenger, made a £20,000 insurance claim between them for the “written off” car and for whiplash injuries.
Prosecutor, William Baker, told the jury the real driver was a man called Mohammed Patel, who has raked in at least £46,000 profit by staging 92 collisions in three years.
