A JOBS boost was confirmed today.
Car dealership Arnold Clark is to create 80 jobs with the opening of a new showroom in Huddersfield.
Arnold Clark is to open a Peugeot and Renault outlet on a three-acre site at Leeds Road close to its Huddersfield Motorstore.
A spokeswoman for the company said the £3m investment will include a dealership stocking 300 vehicles as well as a service and rental department.
The new business will open at the end of October or early in November and the company will be hosting a recruitment night on a date to be announced.
The investment is part of a drive by Europe’s largest independently-owned motor dealer to create 700 new jobs in the UK by February next year.
The new positions comprise 500 sales posts, 120 apprenticeship places and 80 supporting roles for Arnold Clark’s existing sites and proposed developments across northern England.
The move was welcomed as "very good news" by Chancellor Alistair Darling on a visit to the company’s Glasgow headquarters.
He added: "The UK car market is a vital part of our economy and that is why we introduced the car scrappage scheme at the Budget.
