Beauty Suzanne Celensu takes to the catwalk in plastic bag dress

SHE’D look good in a plastic bag – and here are the pictures to prove it.

Forget Prada and Versace, beauty queen contestant, Suzanne Celensu, models the evening dress she will be wearing in the final of a national beauty competition – made entirely of recycled carrier bags.

The 24-year-old, of Scholes Lane in Cleckheaton, is taking part in Miss Earth UK, a pageant with an environmentally friendly ethos.

And when she needed an outfit made of recycled materials, she turned to a Huddersfield fashion designer for help.

Kirsty Spencer, who runs new business, Wardrobe Surgeon, based at the Colne Valley Business Park on Manchester Road in Linthwaite, calls herself a ‘sustainable designer.’

She makes clothes from recycled materials. But she admitted the plastic bag dress was a unique commission.

“I have to say, I’ve never used carrier bags to make a dress before,” she said

“I usually get my materials from cutting up old clothes, so this was a little bit different.”

Kirsty, of Crosland Moor, appealed for people to donate bags for the project – and got about 1,000 back.

She said: “There was everything from Harrods bags to Morrisons. I was absolutely thrilled with the result. It turned out better than I could have imagined.
