Huddersfield colleges celebrate record-breaking A-level results
STUDENTS had cause for celebration as A-level pass rates soared in Huddersfield.
The town’s results reflected a national increase again this year to a 97.5% pass rate.
Huddersfield New College, Shelley College and Greenhead College all smashed national averages.
Pass rates at Huddersfield New College were reported at 99%
Principal Angela Williams told the Examiner: “We are thrilled with this year’s record–breaking results.
“They reflect the care and dedication of staff and the hard work of students at the college.
Greenhead College students packed the main hall yesterday morning to find out their results.
Jack Cartwright,of Thurstonland, was delighted to be accepted to study at The University of Manchester.
The 18-year-old achieved two A grades and a B.
He said: “I’m surprised. I wasn’t sure if I was going to get the grades. I was 50 – 50.
“I’ve really enjoyed my time here at Greenhead. We’re all going out in town tonight to celebrate.”
Lianna Francis didn’t just pick up three A grades and a place at the prestigious University of Cambridge.
The Shepley teen was also shortlisted for a chance to win £250 from the exam board for her outstanding essay on Richard the Lionheart.
Fellow student Manpreet Singh’s mum was ‘over the moon’ when he rang her with news of his A and two B grades.
The student said he was really nervous picking up his grades yesterday morning from the Greenhead Road college.
He was hoping for an A grade in Psychology so he could study the subject at The University of Huddersfield – and the talented teen cracked it.
