£10,000 reward offered to find Birkby arson suspect Shahid Mohammed

A £10,000 bounty was today put on the head of Huddersfield’s most wanted man.

Crimestoppers, the independent crime-fighting charity, is offering the big reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Shahid Mohammed.

He is a fugitive wanted in connection with the terrible arson attack that killed eight people from the same family.

The fatal fire happened in the early hours of Sunday May 12, 2002, at a house at Osborne Road, Birkby.

It claimed the lives of three generations.

The reward offer was made now as Muslims celebrate Ramadan. The hope is someone will have a conscience and come forward with vital information about Mohammed, of Thornton Lodge, who is thought to have fled to Pakistan, but may now be back in the UK.

Dave Cording, Crimestoppers’ Director of Operations, said: “We are appealing to the Muslim community who may know of the whereabouts of this dangerous individual.

“Ramadan is a time of community spirit, for reflection and carrying out civic duties, it is surely a civic duty to help make communities safer by helping law enforcement track down criminals.

“If you have information, I can assure you that any contact with Crimestoppers, which is not part of the police, is 100% anonymous and this includes payment of rewards.
